Ang's Story
I moved to NY when I was 18 without
my parents from AZ. When I was 22 I started to think about implants. I was working a full time job as an investigator
while going to school in the evenings Mon-Thurs and working as a bartender on Fri and Sat nights. I was very active
and used to be a long distance and cross country runner.
I decided to get saline breast implants on November 15,1998. I went to two surgeons for a consultation on long
island. I then decided to go with the second one because he was $500 cheaper and also because he was a friend of
my friend's parents.
My reasons for breast implants were because I wanted them to be a bit bigger and wanted more cleavage. I was a
34B, 5'4" and 105 lbs. I was not insecure with myself, just wanted to feel a little more sexy.
I was so excited I bought a whole new
wardrobe of sexy lingerie. I waited and waited for the swelling to go down so I could fit into my bras. That did
not happen, I ended up being a 34D.
I was in the middle of my junior year
of college and right after the surgery was beginning to have problems. I could not concentrate on writing a paper
for a psych class. My memory was non existent and I started to have unclear thinking. It was what is now referred
to as "brain fog". I had to drop out of college because of this.
My body began to ache all over and I began to get very depressed. I didn't know why. I never was like this prior
to implants. I had everything going for me and was a happy person with a lot of drive. My friends noticed a big
change in my behavior and when they would call me to do things I would tell them I didn't feel good or I wouldn't
even answer the phone. They continued to tell me "you are always sick!" I found myself calling in sick
a lot and then eventually had to quit.
I could not sleep at all. I had the worst insomnia. I then started to take Prozac and then a bunch of other drug
cocktails. Nothing helped me. I was told by doctors it was allergies, sinus infections, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
& Fibromyalgia Syndrome, etc. I had a bunch of blood tests done because at one point, they thought I might
have Lupus.
It was November, 2001, and I was just looking for answers, so I did some research and came across a support group
called Saline Info and met a some women who suffered health problems from their breast implants. We compared our
symptoms and I noticed that everything was identical.
I did not waste another minute. I did some research and found out that I needed to have these implants removed
immediately using a technique called EN BLOC. I made an appointment with a breast specialist across the country
and took out a loan to have this done. I went to:

It is now 2 weeks after my explant surgery date (January 18, 2002) and I feel great! I feel like I was given a
second chance at life. I have so much energy that people have to tell me to settle down since I just had surgery.
I cannot express in words how happy
I am and thankful to those women on the support group who have severely helped my health improve by informing me
of the dangers of the implants and getting them removed immediately.
I am awaiting the results from my pathologist,
who is examining my implants and scar capsules. Once I get these results back then I feel I can move forward and
find out the proper treatment for recovery from the toxins that invaded my body.
(Ang has since received her pathological
reports from the study of her implants. Dr. Blais found large amounts of micro-organisms in the saline solution
of both implants and also a major manufacturing defect in the right implant. Angelika is now looking for the proper
treatment to deal with the type organisms were growing in her chest.)
